FUNDING

Government Funded Childcare

The UK Government provides funded childcare to help families with the cost of early years education. Depending on your child’s age and your family circumstances, you may be eligible for 15 or 30 hours of funded childcare each week during term time.

These funded hours can usually be taken over 38 weeks per year (term time), or some nurseries may offer a stretched option across the year by using fewer hours per week.

30 Hours Free Childcare (Working Parents)

Working families may be eligible for 30 hours of funded childcare per week (1,140 hours per year) for children aged 9 months to school age.

To qualify for this funding:
Both parents must be working (or the sole parent in a single-parent household)
Each parent must earn at least the equivalent of 16 hours per week at minimum wage
Each parent must earn less than £100,000 per year
Parents must apply online through the Government website and will receive a childcare eligibility code, which must be provided to the nursery.

Don't Miss Out!

Before your child turns 3 at the start of a term, we will be able to advise you on how to obtain the 30 hours funding for the following term.
You will need to register online at beststartinlife.gov.uk and if you are eligible, you will be issued with a ‘code’.
Once you have received your code, come and talk to the Nursery Manager to enroll your child.

Funding for Children from 9 Months (Working Families)

The government has expanded childcare support so working parents of children from 9 months old may now access funded childcare, gradually increasing up to 30 hours per week from September 2025.

This funding aims to support parents returning to work and help children access early education before starting school.

Funded Childcare for Eligible 2-Year-Olds

Some 2-year-olds may qualify for 15 hours of funded childcare if families receive certain benefits or additional support.

This funding is available for 38 weeks per year, beginning the term after the child turns two.

15 Hours Free Childcare (Universal Funding)

All children in England are entitled to 15 hours of funded early education per week from the term after their third birthday until they start school.

This funding is available to all families regardless of income or employment status and provides 570 funded hours per year.
